Gregory Yanagihara, who was born in Hawaii and lives in Zurich, Switzerland, contacted me saying he wanted to know about the roots of his great-grandfather (Yanagihara Kanekichi), who emigrated to Hawaii. Sakamoto handled the email correspondence. We will post the contents of the email, so if anyone knows anything about Yanagihara Kanekichi's roots or family tree, please contact the contact information on this website.

Dear Kamurokai Secretariat,

Nice to meet you. My name is Sakamoto. Sorry for the sudden email.

I live in Switzerland, and when I happened to talk to a neighbor, I found out that he is half Japanese. When I looked into his roots, I found out that he was born from the marriage of a Japanese man in Hawaii and a Swiss woman. His paternal surname is Yanagihara, and he wanted to know his family roots, so I looked at his old family register and found out that he was from Okikamuro.

After doing some research, I found out that the people of Okikamuro had a connection with Hawaii through fishing, and that perhaps his grandfather or great-grandfather had immigrated to Hawaii.

The person said that he wanted to find out his roots, and that he would like to visit Japan at some point next year. By chance, I was searching for a website and came across this site, and I thought that it was exactly his roots, so I introduced it to him.

There are two things he is interested in. The first is whether there is a grave of the Yanagihara family in Okikamuro (he seems to be interested in the family crest), and the second is about the Yanagihara family before they came to Kamuro. Looking at various websites, he thinks they may have been samurai who supported the Iyo-Kono clan.

I'm very sorry to bother you during your busy schedule. If anyone knows, I would appreciate your cooperation. Sorry for the sudden email.

Sakamoto

Mrs. Sakamoto

Thank you for your email.

The surname Yanagihara is quite common on Okikamuro Island. If you know the name of the person who immigrated to Hawaii, there is a good chance that you can find the family tree and grave on Okikamuro Island.

You can also visit Hakuseiji Temple (the only temple on Okikamuro Island) and ask to see the past book (grave record). (Basically only descendants)

Okikamuro Island is becoming increasingly depopulated, but there are the Hiroshima Kamuro Party, the Kansai Kamuro Party, the Tokyo Kamuro Party, and the Hawaii Kamuro Kai, and they are trying to stop the depopulation somehow.

The Kamuro Party is also registering the family trees of Kamuro Party members in a family tree project and registering them in one database on Okikamuro Island. This will allow you to instantly find the family tree relationships between members.

If you know even a little about the names of the person's parents, grandparents, and great-grandfathers in Hawaii, you can contact the Hawaii Kamuro Kai. (There is a member who is a descendant of Yanagiwara.)

If you don't mind, could you please let me know the name of that person's ancestor? I am the chairman of the Tokyo Kamuro Party and also the creator of okikamuro.com. I also manage the database for the Kamuro Party Family Tree Project.
