Akiyo Yagi

My mother Akiyo Yagi passed away at May 26th 2016 00:01 Inzaisogo hospital age 97. Her funeral has been done at Inzai Funeral Place on May 30th. Yagi family like to appliciate for all warm support our mother received.
Akiyo (Furutani) Yagi was born in Okikamuro island at Oct. 20th, 1918 (Taisho 7).
She married with Yutaka Yagi in Okikamuro island at 1934 (Showa 14).
Yutaka found job in Harima ship building Co. and they moved to Furuike, Aioi-shi Hyogo Prefecture.
They had 3 sons who are Masatomo, Hisayuki and Yoshiyuki after World War 2 at Furuike in Aioi-shi.
Akiyo helped family financially by sawing clothes using her knowledge and skill which learned in Okikamuro island and raised 3 sons.
She also took care about husband’s mother Yoshi Yagi who was Alzheimer's disease about 10 years at her own house.
After that, Yutaka bought land and house at Nabano Aioi-shi. She enjoyed farming in garden of the house, enjoyed singing goeika ( Buddhism poem) and traveled many places in Japan with husband.
After 92 years old, she moved to our house in Inzai-shi Chiba-ken.
Her strong will and clear brain were kept same level. She surprised nurses making Haiku(short poem) while in Hospital.
She was faith Buddhist. Every year summer vacation of elementary school, She took me to Okikamuro island for praying at Hakuseiji temple and yagi family grave site in Susaki. My mother’s house at Okajo was located few minutes distance from Yagi’s house in Okikamuro. I remember that I enjoyed to going back and forth between two houses while Bon summer festival in Okikamuro.
My mother talked to me many times about Okikamuro island and Toku Yagi who is my great-grandmother and immigrated to Canada around 1890. I’m planning to write essays about those stories one by one.
